Our club has been welcoming members since 1982.
Club history
Abingdon Amblers is a diverse and friendly athletics club formed when a group of running friends got together in 1982. We established our young athletes section in 1995.
The club has gone from strength to strength, winning county league championships, and several of our young athletes have achieved national grades. Many young athletes move up to the senior leagues as they get older.
Name change
The club changed its name from Abingdon Amblers to Abingdon Athletics Club. We felt that the new name better reflected the club's wide range of activities. We are, however, still the same friendly club, so nothing has changed there!
AAC 40th Anniversary 2022
On 10 July 2022 we help our 40th Anniversary sports day. The event was attended by more than 200 club members and their families.
The day included a competition based on Quad Kids, where mixed teams of all ages took part in a 600m run, whizz ball throw, long jump and a 75m sprint.
Adult competition
Club members take part in local races throughout the year. We'll publicise races on this website via Facebook, and the club runs on Tuesday evening. Some of the races form part of the Club Championships.
Be social
Whilst athletics forms the central part of our activities, the club also enjoys a healthy social life. Every month we hold Chip Tuesday. After the usual run, we meet at a local pub where the club pays for the chips. We invite everyone to come along.
In the summer we meet at various country pubs to run in the lovely countryside and along the river, followed by chips. A good time is had by all!
