Pud Run 2023

With December and the festive comes one of the highlights in the clubs racing calendar: The Pud Run! And this year a new course and an extra shorter distance bought both club members and invited guests out in droves. All in all, 76 runners came out for the run around boars hill; 24 did 2 laps of the 10k course solo, 6 couples did the distance in relay and 40 tried the new 10k distance on offer this year. We also managed to attracted 20 invited guests.

With the days ahead of the race being relatively dry, the fields were relatively dry and the puddles relatively small. However, there were still hills, wind and, in Nick Hamilton’s case, a feisty bramble to contend with. On re-entering the community centre at Wootton after the race, runners had two things to say; the new course was picturesque and quiet, but those hills were murder. In the end the results were as follows:

• Mathew Browne placed first in the 20k, and Adam low was 1st in the 10k.

• Mel Fernandez and Kate Allred were the 1st ladies home in these races respectively.

• The Relay category was won by the dynamic duo of Kim Sutherland and James Willard.

• In the 20k race the 1st Male Guest was Ollie Cranfield and our 1st Female Guest was Rachel Fernandez (who was also the 1st Senior woman home in the 20k).  

• And to round it all off for the Fernandez family Paul and Mel were the fastest V40 male and female in the 20k respectively.

The full results can be found below. After the race club members and guests were in good cheer in the community centre, with the mulled wine flowing and heaped bowls of Christmas pudding being consumed. The event culminated in not only the prize giving but also a raffle with many, many generously donated prizes. From the guest fees, the raffle and coffees requested by the parents watching the football on the nearby field, we managed to raise £447, which has been donated to the Trussell Trust.
