Running up that hill

Tuesday 2 July saw the annual club hill race known as the Hendred Handicap. I great chance for club members to get together and punish themselves by running up a stinking big hill. But it’s for charity!

Everyone back safely from the top of the hill.

The race is run as a handicap, with slower runners setting off first and faster runners starting later. It’s all based on Andrew Garner’s secret formula which aims to get everyone back at around the same time.

After the race, we all headed back to the club house in Hendred for a fabulous BBQ. This was the first time we’d done this for the catering and I think it’s fair to say it was a huge success. We were even lucky with the weather in the end, with a sunny, calm evening.

Our raffle and entries raised £262 for SSNAP.

Chef, Sam, with tongs at the ready.

A huge thanks to social secretary, Sam Clark for being our cook for the evening. Also thanks to Steve Badcock for helping Sam with the organisation and Nicky Brock for helping out on the night.

Another big thank you goes to Andrew Garner for working out the running order and setting everyone off. He also produced the results (below). Andrew’s helpers were Steve Sadler and Helen Bower.

A big thanks to the marshals out on the course, including John Styles who was a very welcome sight handing out water at the top of the hill.
